In questo episodio torniamo sul fronte orientale. Mentre a occidente gli anglofrancesi e i tedeschi non riescono a superare lo stallo delle trincee, sui Monti Carpazi e in Polonia, gli imperi di Germania, Austria e Russia si affrontano in alcune delle battaglia più terribili e disperate della Prima Guerra Mondiale.

Gli stati maggiori, non ancora del tutto consapevoli della realtà della guerra di posizione, progettano nuove offensive, tra cui la prima interamente a trazione britannica, la battaglia di Neuve Chapelle.
